What Kind Of Music Is This?

My kind, well, in as much that I wrote the songs and sing them, they are done entirely in my style. (For what that's worth.)  As a musical genre, they would be called Contemporary Christian.  The arrangements are influenced by various friends, basically whoever I can get to play with me.  For the record... I am an amateur musician, meaning you get what you pay for.  I just like to play and sing and the one thing I sing about is the only thing that's really important.

These songs are written from my experiences living the "Christian life", that is, the life of faith and hope in Jesus Christ.  I'm not a very religious person, but I am persuaded that Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be and I am changed because of it.  Almost without exception, every song is directly related to some event in my life or in my mind where the worst of my battles have been fought.  Mine is an old story, told brand new in every life that lives it.  I hope you find some part of your life somewhere in my songs and more than that... if you do not, I hope you come to know the truth about Jesus Christ.

The Songs

For the moment, there are few songs here.  I have written about 20 but I've never taken time to create decent recordings.  I recently obtained a Korg D16 multi-track and ever since, I've been working on getting my songs together.  As I complete the recordings, I'll post them here.  Each song is in the MP3 format along with a plain text copy of the chords and lyrics.

Where I Live - Michael L. Wester.mp3                                                      Where I Live.txt
This is the first song I recorded using the D16.  It was performed while sitting at my kitchen table after the wife and kids had gone to bed.  I was experimenting with the recorder to see how it sounded.  The lead and piano tracks were laid down later.  When I did, the lead it was performed as a kind 'a, one-take sound check. Since it sounded ok, I decided to keep it.  If you look at the lyric sheet, you might note I've changed the lyrics slightly since this recording.  Still, with all it's flaws, this is the first recording I've completed, so here it is.

This song describes some of life, as it unfolds in the unending mercy of God.  To believe in Jesus Christ, is to view the world as a temporary place where the drama of life unfolds until we leave or He returns.  My hope cannot be in this world.  It is passing away, but for now, it is where I wake up every morning and live out my time.  Words, music, rhythm and lead guitar by Michael Wester.  Piano by Julie Faison.
